HOW TO CONSTRUCT ALL RURAL AND ACCESS ROADS IN NIGERIA: AN OPEN LETTER TO PRESIDENT BOLA AHMED TINUBU

 Your Excellency,

I thank and appreciate you for the incredible developments and transformations that are ongoing in all sectors of our national life through your thought-out Renewed Hope Agenda. One can say indisputably that your government is the best thing to happen to Nigeria in ages. The nation appreciates you for your doggedness and unalloyed determination to steer the ship of our dear country to a path of galloping economic growth which is now visible for the vilest of skeptics to see. You are gradually restoring our lost glory as we now ride shoulder high in the comity of nations.

On the strength of the aforesaid, I hereby want to call your attention to the fact that all rural roads in the 774 local government areas in Nigeria can be turned to easy access roads, particularly; for rural farmers who need motor-able roads to transport farm produce from the hinterlands to the cities. There is a Yoruba adage that says; omode gbon agba gbon lafi da Ile-Ife which literally means it took the cognitive efforts of both old and young to establish (our ancestral home) Ile-Ife. It is therefore pertinent to suggest for your kind consideration; how to make every road in Nigeria motor-able, which will impact on our nation in the area of rural infrastructure and also project you as the solution finder to our perennial rural roads problems.

Your Excellency, I hereby suggest that certain percentage can be deducted (for 3 months) from the federation account and dedicated to the rural roads initiative to be tagged NO MORE BAD ROAD IN NIGERIA INITIATIVE (NOMBRINI) to purchase one Grader Caterpillar and one Compactor Caterpillar for each of the 774 local government areas. With this machinery attached to the Works Department of each local government area across the nation, the governments at the grassroots only need to fuel and maintain them for optimal services to various communities’ rural roads in their local government jurisdiction.

This initiative looks simple but its advantageous ripples effect across the federation cannot be quantified as most dilapidated rural roads would be taken care of. Abandoned communities would be linked to major communities and what a joy this would bring to those citizens who hitherto had felt alienated! While assuring you that you are actually doing well in the saddle; good enough to earn you a second term in office, implementing the suggestion above would be the icing of the cake for a massive vote in 2027; only to be compared to the landslide vote of Hope’93 which you are dutifully “Renewing” at this auspicious time in our nation.

Your Excellency, accept the assurances of my high and esteemed regards!

E-Signed:
