For convenience, let us call all the organizations that are saddled with providing us electricity NEPA. Whether you are IBDC, GENCO, DISCO BAND A B C to Z or what have you, I repeat, for the purpose of this piece; please assume the name NEPA. So let’s go!
Osogbo has dropped from its Olympian height of availability of constant electricity and no thanks to the almighty NEPA. Common, ki lo nsele gangan? Before now, industrialists from Lagos and people from Ibadan, Akure, Ado, Offa and many other places often contemplate relocating to Osogbo to enjoy the Western life of uninterrupted electricity supply.
Today the story has changed; Osogbo is now in constant darkness! Common, what’s going on? The city of Osogbo has witnessed tremendous development during the reign of the present Ataoja of Osogbo Oba Jimoh Olanipekun Larooye ll (long may you reign your majesty!) The city has transformed from a backward state capital to a cosmopolitan and habitable settlement.
From time immemorial, the city has been favoured to have uninterrupted electricity supply largely due to the fact that the step-down from the National grid of Kanji Dam is located there, but since the beginning of year 2025 electric supply has gone from bad to worse and from worse to terrible! If the companies saddled with electricity supply failed in their duty, and the government of the day doesn’t give a damn, it is only normal that we call on the owner of the land, Kabiyesi Ataoja of Osogbo to plead on behalf of the residents for the restoration of the old glory of constant electricity supply. This serves as a subtle plea from law abiding citizens who are also subjects of the revered monarch.
