The refrain “On the march again” in the present day Nigeria is synonymous to a search for a political leader either as president, governor or a local government Chairman. It was a slogan that was pivotal to the political movement of the late MKO Abiola in the early 90s. As Osun State is again in search of a credible leader as governor, Prince Dotun Babayemi fits the bill perfectly for many reasons.
The prognosis across the State points to the fact that the Gbongan born Prince is matchless and unique in his own way. He is no stranger in the political corridors of Osun State as he has intimidating political credentials. During the governorship primaries of the PDP In 2022 where he contested; that party has not gotten over the political Tsunami that engulfed it when he was allegedly shortchanged through high and devious political maneuvering. That case went up to the Supreme Court and the rest is now history!
Prince Dotun Babayemi, now a card carrying member of the opposition APC in Osun State is on the march again for Abere’s seat of power. On this note; he has kick-started his governorship journey precisely on the 19th of May, 2025 at APC’s party Secretariat, Ogo Oluwa, Osogbo. Although, it was meant to be a quiet meeting with the State Working Committee, his supporters across the State mobilized themselves on their own volition to the venue. At the event, Omoba Dotun Babayemi told his hosts that he came essentially; to tell the State Exco that he would be running for the office of governor come 2026.
The Chairman of the APC Osun State chapter, Sooko Tajudeen Lawal while replying his guest said Babayemi is fully welcomed into the race but advised that since there is a level playing ground for all aspirants, they must work in harmony for the progress of the party and whoever emerges as the flag bearer of the party must be supported by all. Shortly after the meeting the aspirant addressed a mammoth crowd of his supporters at the party secretariat, telling them that he would embark on a statewide tour to meet with stakeholders about his ambition.
Omoba Dr. Dotun Babayemi is currently traversing Osun State, meeting with Elders, party leaders and party members alike and the reception has been overwhelming. The confidence he exudes everywhere he goes can either be a factor of his profession as an erudite lawyer, or hereditary as a Prince of the ancient town of Gbongan. Whichever way, he is a man that is well read and a business mogul who has been very successful with anything he touches.
It is trite knowledge, and it can be said of him that he is an aspirant without any luggage or scandal, whose educational credentials is not only verifiable but also unquestionable! The journey ahead is still far but according to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu “power is never served a la carte, you have to fight for it” Babayemi wants to fix and transform Osun State, that’s the journey he has embarked on, may he gets to his destination(Abere) and safely too.
